Sprint start to 2022 for Hart Swimming Club



Hart Swimming Club has sprinted into 2022. January see’s the Hampshire County Swimming Championships kick off over 3 weekends. This is the first Championships since January 2020 which took place just before UK wide COVID lockdowns.


Hampshire County Championships has been a major training focus for HartSC’s swimmers and represents a huge milestone for swimmer’s competitive calendars post COVID shutdowns.


Head Coach, Darren Buchan said “We are thrilled to announce that Hart SC has 57 individual swimmers qualifying for Hampshire County Championships. This is the most swimmers in North Hampshire and one of the highest in all the County. We believe this may be a record for the club as well… at least in recent memory!”


Hampshire County Championships starts on 15th & 16th January for long course events including the grueling 800m and 1500m races in Winchester’s new multimillion £ swimming facility, followed by the 14 & under Championship’s weekend on 29th & 30th January in Portsmouth’s Mountbatten Centre. The Championships are then rounded off back in Winchester on the 5th & 6th February for the 15 & Over Championships.


Hart SC are currently ranked #1 in the Hampshire for 14 & Under qualifiers and are hoping for an exciting competition! Hart SC has already been recognized for its distinguished Junior Swimming Scheme which over the past 5 yrs has grown from strength to strength. The quality and number of qualifiers is testament to Hart SC squad program.


In addition, Hart SC Masters Squad (18 Yrs & Over) have 13 qualifiers for the Swim England Southeast Regional Championships taking place in Crawley on 22nd & 23rd January.


Spencer Farmer, Chairman of Hart SC added “We are delighted to see our Master’s squad continue to excel in the sport they love. Our Master’s swimmers range from 23 to 65 yrs old in the squad. With the 13 Regional qualifiers and the younger 57 Hampshire County Qualifiers, nearly a 1/3rd of the Club is competing at the top levels of their swimming in January. It’s a fantastic achievement and the club wishes to thank all of our coaching team for all the hard work and dedication they have shown to help our swimmers get there. Head Coach Darren, Assistant Head Coach Dan, Junior Head Coach Will, Masters Coach James and Coaches Balaz and Alex plus all the assistants that also help out. Thank you!”
