THE
INCENTIVE CUP
Introduced back in 1972 this perpetual trophy is awarded at regular intervals to
acknowledge the most improved personal performance by any of the club's younger
swimmers.
The performance is that indicated by the decrease in the previous 'personal
best' of the swimmer in any one of the four strokes or the IM. The award
is limited to formal ASA events of 100m or less and to girls and boys aged 12
years or under at the gala date. The cup is clearly an incentive in
recognising any significant improvement but also encourages swimmers to take
part in their weaker strokes where there is the most potential for improvement.
The name of the holder of the 'takeaway cup' is displayed in the Club trophy
cabinet

TOP TALENT
The Top Talent Competition embodies a simple
technique to inter-compare the swimming performance of girls and boys
irrespective of their age, chosen stroke or the distance swum in obtaining a
competition time.
Effectively their swim time is compared with the
NQT (National Qualifying Time) for their age, stroke and distance. The TT
formula (NQTx100/Swim Time) gives the SPEED of the swimmer as a percentage of
the swim speed needed to obtain an NQT in that stroke and at that distance.
Although there are only a limited number of
stroke & distance combinations in the Hart Club competition a TT figure
can be obtained for any National Competition event. The principle is an
invaluable aid both to monitor swimmer development and to show the distance to
a target aim. For example a TT figure of 95 indicates that just a 5%
improvement will produce a NQT, whilst a TT figure of 100 or more indicates
the NQT milestone has been reached. At that stage a word to Coach would
produce the approximate figure needed to reach the G,B,S medal
standard at National level!
