ASTHMA FORMS
Any swimmer who is registered with the ASA
(they have paid a membership fee of £5.50 or £16.50 this term) must annually
complete an asthma form. This is because FINA and the IOC ban some asthma
medications because they contain anabolic agents and/or stimulants. Certain
medications are acceptable and it is very important that the ASA are sure
that a swimmer is taking an approved medication and using it for a legitimate purpose. Completing these forms are vital -
Ignorance
is no defence against a positive doping test.
Swimmers must complete a new form if there is
any change in their medication throughout the year.

Other conditions requiring Medical Notification
In addition to asthma it is now a requirement
of FINA that information is notified to the ASA regarding medical conditions
requiring the permanent use of a banned substance where there is no other
substitute. Following receipt of a medical certificate a dispensation to swim in
competitions up to National level will be given.
Swimmers or parents should send their medical
certificate, which must clearly state the name & address of swimmer and
their doctor, in an envelope marked ‘Notifiable Medication’ to-
