CLUB COACH

Keeping a Log Book

'What is a log book'?

It is your personal record of your swimming.

'Do I have to buy a special book'?

No - you don't. The easiest thing to use is an 'Academic Diary'

the dates fit the swimming calendar. Otherwise you can use what you like:- an exercise book, loose leaf file, note book, OR your imagination. You can purchase a log book from the SWIM SHOP (Mail order), nice Christmas or birthday present.

'What do I write in it'?

Your name! Personal details such as your date of birth, school you attend and year, height and weight, hobbies, other sports teams.

'Swimming history'

Keep a copy of the fixtures list, you can get this off the club's website. Personal best record, medals and awards won, stroke counts, favourite training sets, worst training sets! your best stroke, your worst stroke (are you going to improve it?) swim training times for sets i.e how long does it usually take you to swim 100 freestyle, do you 'run out of steam' on certain sets. Test set results, such as T 20's.

Land training - do you go? If not why not? It is important.

'Personal thoughts'

Who is your best friend at the Club, which is your favourite night to train. Is the Coach in a good mood, did they tell you how well you swam the session. Did the coach shout a lot!

Did you enjoy the gala on the weekend, did you swim a 'PB'

I hope I have given you some ideas to help you with your log book, I will be asking to see them. Please don't get mum or dad to do it for you! I can tell if it is your own work.

KAREN - Club Coach.
