Hart Swimming Club (Hart SC) began life as Fleet Swimming Club in 1969. It was founded by Lesley and Hilary Wigg in a pool in their back garden. The Club grew over the years and started training at various pools in and around Fleet.  When the new pool opened at Hart Leisure Centre in May 1991 Hart SC  took the decision to make it the Club’s ‘home pool’.

Hart SC has two ‘Club nights’ (Sunday and Thursday) at Hart Leisure Centre when the Club hires the whole pool from 6.30-10pm. Please come down and meet us. New swimmer trials are held on the first Sunday of every month [link to trials notice]. Hart SC achieved Swim 21 accreditation at competitive development in 2009 and continues to development within this programme. Swim 21 is the ASA’s aquatic quality mark for the development of effective, ethical and sustainable ASA affiliated clubs.

What do we do?

The Club is the local ‘Competitive’ Swimming Club for Hart District, but our members come from as far afield as  Lightwater, Wokingham and Woking. The Club caters for all ages (see Squads), including a thriving Masters squad. Hart SC does not run swimming lessons, or have Water Polo or Synchro Squads.   Training follows the principles of Sport England’s LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development).

Competing and Funding

Hart Swimming Club is a member of the Hants and South Coast Leagues and the National Arena Swimming Leagues (South). Our swimmers enter a number of Open Meets throughout the swimming year (September-July) and these cover all abilities. We have swimmers competing at National, Zonal, Regional and County Level. Hart SC also host several in-house (Club) Meets during the year. Our Masters Squad also competes successfully.

All our funding is generated via the swimming members squad fees, and competition entries, which help towards the cost of pool hire, land  training and coaching.  Hart SC actively  searches for funding  at all times and welcomes  sponsors. Please join our Easyfundraising page.

Volunteering at Hart SC

Swimming Clubs rely on volunteers to assist with the day-to-day running, and without them Hart SC would cease to function.  You may know many of our volunteers as they form the Committee: the Executive comprising Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Secretary oversee the daily operations of the Club and liaison with County, Regional, and National governing bodies;  and the full Committee who deal with all club matters: business, financial, coaching and competition.

However, there are many other non-committee roles that require filling: eg. Time keepers, Judges, Team Managers, squad reps and admin. By giving just a little of your time, you can make a big difference.

What is volunteering all about?
